Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey
For the Families:

Many times our families are told unexpectedly that they need to visit the Delaware Valley region for life saving medical treatment for their sick or injured child. The length of their treatment is often unknown, which coupled with re-locating to an unknown area, can add immeasurable stress on a family. This section is designed for families who will be staying with us, in hopes we can answer some of their initial questions about coming to the House.

Common and Not-So-Commonly Asked Questions

Where is the Ronald McDonald House located?
We are located at 550 Mickle Blvd. (aka Martin Luther King Blvd.), in Camden, New Jersey. We are neighbors with Cooper University Hospital and are blocks away from the Camden Waterfront, the Adventure Aquarium and the Camden Children's Garden.

How do we get there?
Many families fly into Philadelphia International Airport and rent vehicles or take taxis to the House. If taking public transportation, we are located across from the Walter Rand Transportation Center, a hub for NJ transit buses, PATCO speedline and a stop for the NJ Riverline.

How far in advance should we request a room?
Since we do not take room reservations, only room requests, it is wise to call the House as soon as you know the date of your appointment or surgery. Then call two days before your actual arrival to confirm that you still need the room and check what the availability looks like for your date.

If a room is not available on the date of arrival, what can we do?
We try to accommodate all families on their dates of arrival. But sometimes we can not, and on those days, we can call the Holiday Inn located in Cherry Hill, NJ (about 3-4 miles or 10-12 minutes from the House) and book a room at a reduced rate of $55.00 a night.

Is there parking at the House?
We have a gated parking lot that requires a key for access into the lot. The key is provided at check-in.

Is it safe to be at the House?
We are proud of the facilities and the warm atmosphere that we offer to over 800 families a year. In order to assure the safety of the families, there is video camera surveillance of the property as well as monitoring by Cooper University Hospital security guards.

Are there bathrooms in the rooms?
Every room has its own private bathroom, equipped with towels and floor mats. Of the twenty bedrooms, two are handicapped accessible, with a roll-in shower.

Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes.

What time should we get there?
The House runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the offices are open between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. We ask that all families check-in by 9 p.m. and checkout by 1 p.m.

How much does it cost?
The suggested donation per night is $15 plus a $5 key deposit that is returned to you when you return the keys at the end of your stay.

How many family members can stay?
Our rooms are equipped to provide comfortable sleeping arrangements usually for four individuals. Some rooms have one queen and two twin beds, while others have two queen beds.

Are there cribs in the rooms? Pack-and-Plays?
Several rooms have cribs and pack-and-plays may be requested at the House Manager's office.

Should we bring our own linens?
While some families choose to bring their own linens, each room is outfitted with the necessary sheets, blankets and pillows for a good night's rest. There are two laundry rooms with washers, dryers, and detergent that are available to the families free of charge.

Are meals provided?
Volunteer groups provide dinner for the families each night between 5 - 6 p.m. On the weekends, breakfast and dinner are provided. There is a stocked pantry in the kitchen with many breakfast and lunch items that may be prepared by families any time of the day.

What do we do if we get bored?
There are tons of things to do in Camden and downtown Philadelphia! You can visit the Adventure Aquarium, the Camden Children's Garden, the Garden State Discovery Museum, catch a RiverSharks baseball game or ride the train or the ferry to Philadelphia, where you can visit the Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center, shop at the Gallery, and delight in a meal at Reading Terminal Market.

How long may we stay?
Families are welcomed to stay at the House for the entire duration of the child's hospitalization or treatment. After the patient is released from the hospital, families are expected to check out in time to make the room available for another needy family.
